Welcome to Second Grade!  Here is a little about myself:

My name is Mrs. Nicki Place.  I graduated from Hemet High School, in Hemet, CA.  Following that, I served in the United States Air Force as a Loadmaster on the C-141B aircraft. In the Air Force, I traveled all over the world, which created a love of exploration and drove my curiosity for learning about our world. I then went on to attend York College of Pennsylvania, and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science certification in Elementary and a minor in Fine Art. I am currently pursuing a Master's in Educational Technology through Wilson College. During my three years as a substitute, I taught second and fourth grade at Wellsville Elementary. This will be my fifth year here at South Mountain!

I am married to Mr. Steve Place.  We have three children; Gianna, a freshman at Shippensburg, Addison, who is in 11th grade, and Eli, who is now a 6th grader at Northern Middle School.

I enjoy traveling, reading, painting, gardening, hiking, and being outdoors. My favorite places to be are in the mountains or on the beach. One of my favorite subjects is writing, although science is a close second! 

My hope as a teacher is to inspire creativity and innovation in each of my students. I aspire to build inquiry and creativity into each lesson, which allows the student's curiosity to drive their learning! I am absolutely delighted to be your child's second grade teacher!
