Grading Policies

  •  Grading Policies

Spanish I follows the grading principles of Northern Middle School and the Northern Middle School 8th grade.

An evaluation of the work done by the student will include a list of all subjects, as well as specific comments.  Grades are based on a variety of school work, such as class participation, quizzes, tests, homework, oral reports and projects.  Spanish I is a year-long course corresponding to Spanish I in Northern High School.  The grading system is as follows:

              93-100%      A       Excellent progress

              85-92%       B        Good progress

              77-84%       C        Satisfactory progress

              70-76%       D       Minimum progress

              Below 70%   F        Unsatisfactory progress

    Homework Policy

Spanish I follows the homework policy of Northern Middle School as stated in the Agenda book.

Homework completion and success are closely intertwined.  Homework completed on time and accurately is a key element in helping a teacher to determine if a student is ready for the examination.  Homework not completed or completed inaccurately is an indication that the student does not fully understand the material and has more work to do before being permitted the opportunity to demonstrate his/her competency in a given area.  Homework that is completed on time, evaluated by the teacher and revised by the student can serve as a study guide to help students prepare for tests.  A copy of the homework policy is posted in each classroom, if you have additional questions please contact the middle school office.

    -         If homework is received one day late, the student will receive 80% of the possible earned grade.

    -         If homework is received 2 or more days late the student will receive no more than 50% of the possible earned grade.

    -         Please view my website for my homework listings under either the date of the individual day of the unit, the homework tab or under my calendar.

    -         Occasionally students can earn more homework by not participating in class or fully trying to work through something in the classroom.  If that happens it will be placed on the calendar, in the homework section and on the individual day.

Homework is assigned by individual teachers.  Students having outstanding assignments may be asked to stay for homework club to make up these assignments.  Homework club will be held afterschool until 3:15 pm.  I am personally able to have kids stay for help on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  Tuesdays I cannot stay because of previously scheduled meeting at the school.
