We had some more impressive performances yesterday in our meet against the Central York Panthers. I was happy to see how much determination and desire some of you exhibited with strong finishes, some even resulting in exciting come-from-behind victories!
For so early in the season, we posted some excellent numbers:
* 45 Career Best Times
* 5 In-Season Best Times
* 4 Career First Times
* 3 Season Best Relay Times (improving our entry times for Districts)
Despite these commendable performances, we really need to improve in three key areas....(i) our finishes in the last five yards (not breathing in free and fly, keeping our heads down and reaching for the wall in all strokes); (ii) our relay exchanges (finishes and starts) and (iii) we need to ATTACK our turns, accelerating into them and exploding off the wall every time. Unfortunately, we don't get partial credit when we have an early takeoff (false start) in a relay. So we need to be sure we finish with a clear, decisive, long last stroke and don't begin our starting action on the block until we're confident we'll be legal. It's much better for the team for your time to be one to two tenths of a second slower than for you to get disqualified. You have the opportunity to practice your turns and finishes many times EVERY day in practice. Take advantage of the opportunity.
