Abraham Lincoln Painting
The National Art Honor Society teamed with several social studies classes to create a collaborative painting of Abraham Lincoln. The painting was done to commemorate the 200th birthday of the 16th President.
After NAHS member Emily McGraw drew the portrait of Abraham Lincoln on a piece of canvas panel, the other members of NAHS applied a base coat of paint. Next, students in Ms. Bonner and Ms. Golden's classes built up the portrait by applying one brush stroke at a time. Mrs. Brink's art students continued the painting process in the intaglio style. Several members of the Northern High School staff also added their brush stroke, including Mr. Bowman. Finally, the members of NAHS finished the painting by adding important details. The words of the Gettysburg Address are being painted in the background to complete the image. This one-ofa-kind collaborative artwork will hang in the hallway near the social studies classrooms.
The mission of National Art Honor Society is to recognize the talents of high school artists and to spread art throughout the school and community. We hope to continue beautifying Northern High School with similar paintings related to courses taught in the building.
