* Meet Mrs. Burgett *
Hello! My name is Mrs. Burgett and I am the Title 1 Reading Specialist at Wellsville Elementary School. In the spring of 2021 I transitioned from a classroom teacher into this new role and I am loving every minute of it!
Let me take a moment to share with you my educational journey leading up to this year. In 2006, I graduated from Shippensburg University with a duel certification in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. Following a very memorable experience student teaching in a full-day Kindergarten class I was offered a job right here at Wellsville Elementary that spring. From there I taught second grade for 7 years. In 2011, I graduated from Penn State University with a Master's Degree in Literacy Education and became certified as a reading specialist. The following year I pursued a grade level change and transitioned from teaching second grade to teaching first grade. I spent 9 wonderful years teaching first grade and gained so many valuable teaching experiences that truly helped to shape me into the teacher I am today. In the spring of 2021 the reading specialist position at WES became available and I knew, despite the challenges we faced that year, that I needed to pursue something I've wanted for a very long time. Although it has not been a full year in this new role I am thrilled to be able to work with the wonderful students and staff at a place I have called "home" for so many years.
I live with my husband and two children - Molly, age 8 and Noah, age 5 - in Carlisle, PA. When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time and entertaining family and friends, going to the beach, cooking, reading, dancing and shopping.
