Alphabet Videos- I have recorded videos for the animal letter cards that I go over with the students on Mondays. This is an optional activity, but I highly recommend it for the kindergarten students to help with letter name and sound identification. There is a watch first video that explains the progression of the videos to help you know where to start your child. You would only need to practice one of these a day. They are 2-4 minutes long so they are a great Language Arts warm up.

    Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Program

The Heggerty program aims to introduce important phonemic awareness concepts on a daily basis to students. Last year was the first year that I used it in my kindergarten classroom, and there was a noticeable increase in students' ability to understand and utilize these concepts to read and write. It goes over rhyming, blending, segmenting, initial sound, ending sound, substituting and other areas of phonemic awareness. At 10-15 minutes a lesson, it really packs in a lot of great content. The most important part is that students must follow along and participate to get the most out of the program. It is intended to be taught as one lesson a day, which is why most weeks have 5 lessons. I am including the lessons for the first week here, and you will also be able to find them starting in the module 5 Language Arts on Buzz. Again, these are optional though highly recommended as they incorporate a lot of important skills. You can also skip the retelling assignment if you complete these lessons during the week.

Important Notes/Reminders

  • Important Notes/Reminders

    • Optional assignments will not be graded but you can still submit them with the weekly work if you would like me to see what you completed
      • If you are ahead of these assignments and want to keep working you are more than welcome to do that

    • Please allow me to unmute your child if you are asked before starting a zoom meeting. This makes it easier for me to communicate with your child without someone having to be right beside them to help unmute.

    • Please do not log in to the zoom room until the time you wish to attend. I will start the meetings as close to the given time as possible, but if you come into a meeting 5 minutes early you will be joining a meeting that is still in progress

    • Please attempt to attend at least one class meeting a week

    • If you have questions feel free to ask questions as needed. It is my goal to get back to you as quickly as possible and I am here to help
