    Elementary Band & Orchestra Recruitment

     

    The Northern York County School District is pleased to be able to offer beginning Band and Orchestra instruction to students in 4th and 5th grade. Lessons occur during the school day and instruction is free of charge.

    Our Instrument Info & Rental Night for parents AND students will be held on Tuesday, September 5th, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the Northern High School Auditorium. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please click here to view the presentation. 

    This page is a landing spot for students to explore informational videos about the different instruments, as well as for families to learn about obtaining an instrument and signing their child up for Band or Orchestra. There are links to the left (under "pages" on mobile) that will give you more information as well. 

    Please view this paper for some general information. 

    Most instruments are permitted on the bus. Instruments that are NOT permitted on school buses are the cello, tuba, baritone, and the French horn. If school inventory is adequate, students who choose these instruments may get assigned one for at-school use and one for at-home. If adequate inventory is not available, families are responsible for transporting these instruments to school on the proper cycle day.   

    Please use this link (click here) to sign up for Band or Orchestra. Please sign your student up by Sept. 19 for a timely start to lessons. If you need a paper copy of the form, please email us, and we will get that to you as quickly as possible. If you miss the deadline, please immediately email us.

  • Instrument Videos
    The following videos introduce all of the instruments available for students in fourth and fifth grade to play. If you would like more help picking a wind instrument, you can also check out Menchey Music's Instrument Selection Guide and their Beginner Instrument Instruction Video. Students will only be able to test out a limited number of instruments at our Information & Rental Night on the 5th, so it is a good idea to preview the instruments here first!
