    Units of Study

We begin the year with our hands on Energy Kit!  Students will learn about electricity by building a series of circuits.  We will then add magnetism into our experiments and learn how electricity and magnetism work together as we create an electromagnet.

Our second unit is our Soils, Rocks, and Landforms kit.  Students will learn how different landforms are created through a study of weather, erosion, and deposition.  They will examine different types of soil and learn where the contents of the soils came from. We will examine different rocks and minerals in this unit as well.

Our final unit is our Environments Unit.  We have some live critters to observe in the Spring.  We will be observing meal worms, isopods, Brine Shrimp, aquatic snails, guppies, and gold fish.  We will determine what is needed to establish a preferred environment for each living thing and observe how some of them will undergo major changes and others will not during the weeks that we observe them.
