• My Philosophy of Assessing Student Progress

All students learn new information and progress at a different rate. As a result, it cannot be expected that every student will receive a 4 on their quarterly report cards for every skill. Each marking period, students will be evaluated based on district-wide criteria in each subject area. The expected “grade” for a student performing on grade level in each area of the report card is a “3”. A “4” is reserved for those who exceed expectations on a consistent basis.

While some children may meet expectations for a skill early in the year, others may work very hard to achieve that skill throughout the year. I view the report card as a document of the continuous growth that takes place during a student’s time in fourth grade and feel that it should accurately reflect the progress they’ve made. My goal is to honestly reflect your child’s progress in all academic and social areas. If I have concerns that your child is not making the progress expected in certain areas, I will make every attempt to notify you before assigning a grade on your child’s report card.
