PSSA Multiplication and Division Prep

  • Multiplication

We worked on fact families, factors and multiples of multiplication problems.  We also worked on multiplying by single digit and double digit numbers.  Please practice this at home.

Factors and multiples are challenging for some students.

Factors are the numbers that are multiplied together to get an answer in a multiplication problem.
         Example: 2 x 3=6  (2 and 3 are the factors of 6 as well as 1 and 6).

Multiple of a number is the product of that number and a whole number.
         Example: the multiples of 5 are: 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, etc.

We also worked on identifying and applying the properties of multiplication.  Please review these properties with your child.  We made foldables in class earlier in the year to help with these properties and addition properties as well.

    Division

We have worked on division and by practicing our facts at home.  Your child should be able to identify the different parts of a division problem.

We also worked on dividing numbers that had a remainder.  Your child also knows how to use a calculator at school to find the remainder of a problem if applicable.
