At the middle school level students begin to think about their interests and what they might like to do for work in the future. As part of the job study program, the Middle School Life Skills Class runs a monthly cafe' where students participate in making various baked goods and coffee drinks that have been ordered by the Middle School faculty and staff. Students learn various aspects of running a business such as overhead, inventory, money skills, profit and loss (hopefully not too much loss), and dealing with customers, to name some of the skills that are being learned.
The students really enjoy this opportunity to "work" and reap the benefits of the food that we make.
