Grading
Grades will be made up of the following:
Homework
All homework assignments are considered practice and are graded on completion. Point values for homework will vary based on what is appropriate for the assignment. Most homework assignments will be worth 5 points. If the assignment is worth more than 5 points, students will be notified of the point value upon receiving the assignment.
Homework will be graded as follows:
100% - On the due date and best effort
80% - 1 day late
50% - 2 or more days late
0% - Assignment is incomplete or missing
When a student is absent for an assignment, full credit may be earned when the work is completed within the middle school guidelines for absence.
Classwork
Point values for classwork will vary based on what is appropriate for the assignment. Grading for class work will follow the same grading guidelines as homework. Students are responsible for finishing incomplete classwork as homework.
Quizzes/Tests/Projects
Quizzes, tests, and projects will be announced and discussed prior to the due date or the date of the quiz/test. Study guides are always given at least one day before the quiz/test. For 7th and 8th grade students, because students are in two math classes, most test and quiz grades will be recorded ONLY for their regular education class.
Tickets
Tickets will be given to students for the following:
- Using manners or kind words
- Working hard and staying on task
- Actively participating in class discussions
- Helping out a classmate
- And more!
Tickets can be used in two ways:
- A ticket can be attached to a graded assignment to improve the grade by 1 point. A maximum of three tickets can be added to one assignment at a time. Tickets can not be added onto late assignments.
- If tickets are not used to improve grades, at the end of the marking period students can place their tickets into a drawing to win various prizes which will be announced prior to the drawing.
Remind
Remind is a one-way text messaging and email system. It is a way for students/parents to receive a text or an email about what the homework is for that night as a reminder. With Remind, all personal information remains completely confidential. PLEASE NOTE: You will receive a separate notification of homework from this math class – it is NOT the same as the purple team text.
There are a few different options for receiving the homework:
- Text messages
- Emails
- Remind app for smartphones (free)
