Counselor News

  • Attention!  Peer Helpers Need

Starting September 5th, I will have applications available to any student in the 4th and 5th grades that are interested in being peer helpers this year.  Students must first have their parent complete the permission form.   After the form is turned in, students will then receive an application that they must complete.  Both the permission form and the application can be picked up in the counseling office (office is located in the 3rd grade hallway).  Students must submit their applications by September 22nd.  Peer helper trainings days will be held Monday, September 25-28th.

    Lunchtime Support Groups

As many of you know, last year guidance became part of the specials schedule.  All students in grades 1- 5 have a guidance lesson one time every cycle.  This has been an awesome experience for me.  I believe the lessons have helped me provide a helpful influence on all students in the building.  Teaching is most of my day, but I do have the opportunity to see students in small group over lunch periods every day of the cycle.  The groups allow more time to provide individual attention to students in need.  I encourage any parent who would like their child to participate in a group to please contact Mr. Strausbaugh  at 432-8691, ext. 1710.  I will be taking the time in the next couple of cycles to introduce the lunch groups to the students.  Students can request a permission to join a group, but have they parent's sign the permission slip and send it back into their classroom teachers.  Support groups will begin October 2nd.

The following groups are offered to all students:

Mustangs - students who need support with behavior as well as social skills.

Ponies - students who need socialization activities to build friendships.

Changing Families - students who have parents that are separated or divorced.

Peacemakers - students who need anger management strategies and conflict resolution skills.

    Guidance Lessons

Guidance lessons will begin on September 6th.   If you would like to see the content and dates for lessons, you can find that information on this website under the K-12 counseling curriculum.
