SIP class is divided into two groups determined by grade. Each year each group explores 2 main topics.
First semester (Sept- Jan) we are researching either Medieval Times or Space.
Second semester (Jan-Jun) we are researching either Optical Illusions or Flight.
In SIP we research and investigate those two main topics. Students are free to explore whatever interests them under the umbrella of those topic. There are plenty of interesting topics to explore related to the above Units. We use Seesaw as a class communication tool. I encourage students to post what we have done so you can see their work. I have both in class activities as well as out of class activities. There is no penalty if work is not completed. It is provided for the student who is looking for topics to explore at home outside of SIP class. I know how busy things get at home. These extra things as optional in case you would like to explore at home students are free to research any topic that is of interest to them. Every class we do a problem solving activity and students are told to go home and try this challenge out on someone at home. The first thing I tell them the number one assignment is share with mom and dad what we did today in class. See if they can solve the problem we completed in class. I encourage your student to take notes and write in their journal or to add information to Google Doc. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. ~ Mfoster@northernyork.org
