About Me
I am the Spanish teacher at Northern Middle School. I have a BA in Spanish from the University of Cincinnati and a MBA in International Business from the University of Akron. I attended the University of Madrid: Complutense during my undergraduate degree. While working on my masters, I worked on a minor in Japanese. My teaching credentials are from Wilson College in Shippensburg, PA. I have a second Masters degree from Ashford University in Teaching and Learning with Technology.
I am passionate about both Spanish language and Spanish culture – not just of Spain, as there is so much beauty in South and Central America also. I hope that in my class we can explore the beauty of the language as much as the beauty of the cultures. I prefer to enjoy the diversity of our planet and therefore I am not fond of words of exclusion, or that put a person down because of their background. I hope I foster a fun classroom that is inclusive of all no matter what.
In my class, I am trying to teach not only Spanish, but foster a sense of enjoyment and excitement about the language. Language acquisition may not be the easiest thing in the world, but it can be one of the most fulfilling. Being able to communicate with someone of another culture adds to a person’s life, so I hope I can bring that excitement to the classroom and your children’s lives.
I embrace technology in the classroom and in studying a language. You will find an ever growing list of resources on my links page. Please feel free to explore the links along with your children.
Personally, I have two daughters. Both daughters graduated from Northern. My eldest daughter is married and I have 3 grandchildren: Nate, Kyriah and Hansel. I love to read, write, quilt, sew and spend time with my family (not in any particular order). I love to laugh and yes, I play games on my phone and no I won't play with my students - you couldn't find my Game Center name if you tried. :)
Please contact me if you have any questions about the class.
