Per the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), English Language Development (ELD) is the instructional program provided by Northern York County School District (NYCSD) for English learners (ELs), any student who learns English as their second language. NYCSD's ELD instruction program is identified as, "EL Specific English-Only Instruction," where classroom instruction and support are provided by a highly qualified ELD teacher teaching all levels of English language skills and content (K-12) without the use of ELs' native languages for either instruction or support.
NYCSD's Language Instruction Educational Program (LIEP) is a language learning program that provides English language instruction directly focused on the four language-learning domains: listening, speaking, reading, writing. All NYCSD ELD instruction is aligned within student-age and grade-level guidelines and parameters with regard to ELD course content.
