  • Mrs. Carol Richwine

Agricultural Education Teacher & FFA Advisor

Northern Middle and Northern High Schools

Carol Richwine, NYCSD horticulture teacher, holds lifelong agricultural career experience in the business sector, government regulatory agencies, and public education. She holds Bachelor Degrees in Horticulture and Secondary Education from Virginia Tech, and a Master’s of Agriculture and Extension Education from Pennsylvania State University. She and her husband reside in South Central Pennsylvania with their family.

Active classroom partnerships include Penn State Extension, Messiah College, local farmer groups, and PA’s Departments of Agriculture and Education, to positively affect communities of over 45,000 students. Classroom and outreach activities involve producing campus-grown foods for taste-tests and cafeterias, after-school and summer gardening opportunities, and launching farm-to school programs in neighboring districts.

In her 26th teaching year, she fully realizes the privilege of teaching Agricultural Education- the only school subject which uses all disciplines to enrich and sustain life. Witnessing student educational, health, and social transformations through school gardening and vocational skill development, she believes that a food literacy platform is a non-partisan, academic equalizer that can sustain communities as they grow and are fed.
