  • Spring Play “Upside Down” Synopsis

    By the Writers’ Roundtable

Upside Down is a modern story inspired by Romeo and Juliet. The story follows two high schoolers navigating a budding romance while attending rival schools with soccer teams going head-to-head for the championship. The outcome of the game drives tensions even tighter, and the two have to rely on friends to keep them together while other friends try to keep them apart.

Izzy and Cameron, the play’s main characters, meet at a town festival a few days after the game and quickly fall for each other without realizing where the other person is from. Instead of letting their differences divide them, they decide to flip the status quo upside down and unite the schools through their bond. This doesn’t come without it’s bumps in the road, including Cameron’s best friend and soccer team captain, Marc, and Izzy’s older brother and rival team captain, Tyler, being constantly at odds with one another. All the while the popular Patrick Truman weasels his way into Izzy’s life whenever he can. Consequently, the pair try to keep their romance a secret, but that never ends well. Izzy must rely on her sister-by-choice, Nora, to guide her through the fiasco. While Izzy and Cameron work to unite their friends and deepen their bond, it seems at times like they have the whole world against them. Will the two finally get to be together freely? Who wins the championship? Will Patrick finally leave Izzy alone? Will Nora finally get a library card? Find out in Upside Down
