    HERE WE GO!

Public Relations Project - The Public Relations Project provides DECA students with the opportunity to demonstrate the skills needed to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a campaign.  Students select a topic or an issue to raise awareness using a variety of media and promotional activities. The chapter members partnered with the American Heart Association to raise awareness about the risks of heart disease.  A school-wide assembly was held demonstrating the hands only CPR techniques while the song “Staylng Alive” played.  CPR was also performed on the EMS Dog.  A “Red Out” basketball game was held with students selling,  “Get Fired-Up Shirts. “ The media was present providing us with a tremendous amount of coverage on the campaign.

Creative Marketing Project - The Creative Marketing Project encourages students to develop a campaign based around the results of market research. A topic selected for this project usually focuses around a problem or a challenge faced by the school or community. The skills of planninh, organizing, implementing, and evaluating a campaign are essential in successfully carrying out the campaign. A few years back, the topic selected for this project was the National Guard. The primary objective was to change the student's perception of the National Guard. The promotional activities that were selected to do this was an assembly that was held featuring Representative Scott Perry, as the honorary speaker. In addition, students were invited to participate in "boot camp," a physical fitness program held before school.

Learn and Earn Project - This project provides students the opportunity to use their "entrepreneurial skills." The idea is to build a new marketing/sales program around the student store. Students develop a business plan and incorporate a budget around the sales activity, Strong organizational and mathematical skills are encouraged. The ability to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a marketing campaign will be essential in successfully carrying out the campaign. An example of this was the idea of "Spirit Sleeves." Spirit Sleeves became such a craze that everyone was eventually talking about them. A photo shoot and an assembly were held to promote them!

Community Service Project - This project encourages students to recognize their "civic" responsibility to the community, Students make a contribution to a charity. A theme is usually selected to guide the students in planning and implementing their marketing campaign to raise awareness and raise fund for their charity. Strong leadership skills are necessary in successfully carrying out this campaign. The past year students selected to raise awareness and fund for breast cancer. A Pink'D Campaign was held during the sporting events throughout the month of October. A photo shoot was also held to sport the PINK'D shirts worn by the students.

Entrepreneurship Promotion Project - This encourages chapter members to demonstrate their ability to educate others about the importance of entrepreneurship or the opportunities available. Students select a group to educate and develop promotional activities that allow them to plan and evaluate these activities through a promotional marketing campaign. This past year the marketing students attended a workship that was held for high school students at the Mariott. The title of the workshop was called, "An Entrepreneurship Challenge." Following the workshop, students decided to incorporate the show, Shark Tank, into a presentation targeting to a young group of students.
