Stay in the LoopMany tasks completed in room 103 take time and are often an ongoing process. Most of these assignments will be sent home once completed, sometimes not until the end of the marking period. I can assure you, great things are happening in our room! With that said, I am thrilled to announce our classroom uses SEESAW.Seesaw is a digitial portfolio used as a tool to provide you the opportunity to view your child's work that is kept at school. Third grade has transitioned to a Standards Based Reporting System. Assignments and assessments are aligned to the PA Core Standards and will be assessed with a 4, 3, 2, 1 system. A score of 3 indicates that the student is performing on grade level for that particular skill and is where students are expected to be performing. Homework is checked for completion and effort. Most class assignments, work, and tests will be scored based on a 1-4 rubric. Please know that not all assessments are "tests." In fact, I assess both formative and summative assessments that may range from journal logs, projects, presentations, and activities. All summative assessments will be announced at least two days in advance. When evaluating a student's growth and mastery of a particular topic, I primarily look at what/how much the student accomplished in the end.
4 - Advanced - Exceeding grade level expectations (Growth Mindset: What's next?)
3 - Proficient - Independently meeting third grade expectations (Growth Mindset: Yes! I did it. Am I up for a challenge?)
2 - Approaching Proficient - Able to meet expectations with adaptations and guidance (Growth Mindset: Almost there!)
1 - Not Yet Proficient - Unable to meet expectations with adaptations and guidance (Growth Mindset: Not yet!)The following Baking Analogy may assist you in understanding how the Standards Based Reporting System works.
4 = Student decided to do something completely different with the cupcake mix and makes a layered birthday cake instead. The cake has a written saying and candles have been added. He/she understood the directions but went above and beyond what was asked of them.3 = Student has the materials and understands how to make and bake cupcakes. The student bakes the cupcakes.2 = Student has the materials to bake cupcakes but needs some help from someone to get started0 or 1 = Student has the materials to bake cupcakes but doesn't know what to do with them.
