Civil Engineering and Architecture

  • Welcome to Civil Engineering and Architecture

Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA) is a specialization course in the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Pathway To Engineering course sequence.  Students who have completed Principles of Engineering (POE) or are enrolled in / completed Pre-Calculus may register for CEA.  Other students may be considered for enrollment with teacher approval.  CEA builds on some of the physical science topics examined in POE as well as the computer aided drafting (CAD) skills developed in IED.  Students will:
    • Study the history of civil engineering and architecture
    • Investigate career options within civil engineering and architecture
    • Use Autodesk Revit to create construction documents and 3d building models
    • Apply state and local building code requirements to the design of residential and commercial building projects
    • Design basic structural elements within a commercial building
    • Interpret property descriptions and survey land areas
    • Classify soil samples
    • Calculate storm water runoff and plan for its management

There is no textook for CEA.  We will generally use three sources for class activities, assignments, and communication:
    1. Schoology will be used to distribute course materials, for students to submit assignments, and for student/teacher communication.  To use this site, navigate to NYCSD's Schoology LMS and log in with your @northernpolarbears.com email account.
    2. Microsoft Office Tools will be used throughout the course for class content and collaboration.
    3. PLTW's courses site contains PLTW specific course content.  You must be logged in to the PLTW site to access the protected content.  You will be assigned a username and password to access the site at https://my.pltw.org/login
