Starting off with Arabella's outstanding 4th Place in the Girls AA Diving last Monday and finishing with our impressive swims this past Friday and Saturday, it's been quite a week for Northern Swimming and Diving!
Our Boys Team had some outstanding swims, finishing with 29 points and in 15th place against some very fast and deep (mostly AAA) competition. With 184 points, our Girls Team captured the 2019 Mid Penn AA Swimming and Diving Championship, outscoring every other AA team in the conference!Despite the fact that we didn't rest/taper nor shave...* Across both teams, 23 of our 27 swims this weekend were faster than their seed time! That's over 85%! That will serve us well when I submit our entries for Districts by next Sunday.* Individually, we had 26 Career Best Times and 3 Mid Penn Best Times!* Four of our six relays posted Season Best Times (also very good for Districts)!* The Girls 200 Medley Relay Team of Kate Luft, Evangeline Soerens, Dahna Yoon and Jackie Brettschneider got things off to an exciting, HISTORIC start when - in the first event of the meet - they established a new School Record time of 1:48.80! Coach Madi (who was the backstroker on the previous record-setting relay) was very impressed, as were all of the coaches. The girls' time also earned them a 3rd Place medal!* In the very next event, Kate delivered another School Record-setting performance on her way to winning the 200 Free, convincingly, with a time of 1:50.54! Kate's time was fast enough to enable me to submit it for All-American consideration by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA)!* In the next event, the Girls 200 IM, Katelyn Boyce kept the momentum going when she brought home a 5th Place medal!* Two events later, Dahna Yoon earned another 5th Place medal, this time in the 100 Fly. Kate added her second Mid Penn Championship in the same event with a winning time of 57.35!* On Saturday, Dahna and Katelyn were back on the podium, this time earning 5th and 6th Place, respectively, in the 500 Free!* Our final medal-winning performance of the Championship was the Girls 400 Free Relay Team of Kate, Katelyn, Evangeline and Jackie. Their time of 3:43.33 was fast enough to earn them 5th Place medals! In the relay, Kate set a Meet Record for the individual 100 Free, when she lead the relay off with a flat-start time of 51.56. She replaced Meaghan Raab's (from Hershey) Meet Record in the individual 100 Free, set in 2012 of 51.75.Again...what a week for Northern Swimming & Diving!!!I can't wait to see how the rest of the team does at the Mid Penn Plunge next weekend. I know more amazing, heart-pounding, coach-jumping swims are certainly possible!
