West York

  • Yesterday we hosted the Bulldogs of West York for our first dual meet against them in program history.  I wanted to swim and dive against them because I thought the boys meet would provide us with some interesting opportunities and because their girls team is one of the strongest, fastest programs in District III.  Their girls finished third behind us and York Suburban at last year's District III Championships.

    Our boys dominated the meet, winning eight events and coming away with an impressive 101-69 victory.  The win brings the boys overall record to 2-4 and their Colonial Division record remains at 1-1.

    Boys....the West York coaches asked me to pass along to you that you brought out the very best in their boys and they swam incredibly well yesterday.  You challenged and inspired them to reveal their best selves.  Please feel good about that.  The wonderful thing about competitive swimming and diving is it provides the "opportunity" for each individual and team to push and pull each other and test their mental and physical limits.

    Despite winning only four events, the determination and depth of our girls team kept it close the entire meet, with a final score of West York 96, Northern 87.  Our girls are now 2-4 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial Division.

    The West York coaches told me afterward that their girls were "really nervous" taking us on as the defending District Champions.  Because of our past successes and program reputation, they looked at us as "the team to beat".  I'm ok with that.  Anytime a team considers it a major achievement to compete well against us it's a very good thing.  Girls, you should be proud of the standard of excellence you're carrying forward today and into the future and against which others compare themselves.

    Yesterday, when tested, we delivered the following results.  We produced:
    * 36 Career Best Times
    * 6 Season Best Times
    * 3 In-Season Best Times

    Finally, parents, I wanted to pass along a comment made to me by the Meet Referee.  She made it a point to stop before leaving and say our parents do a great job running our home meets.  She really enjoys coming to our pool because of that.  Thank you!

    I'm so very blessed to be associated with such a fine group of people - coaches, athletes and parents.
