Shippensburg

  • As I told you last evening, the Shippensburg coach made it clear to me after the meet that their teams agreed the ONLY way they would have any chance of beating us would be to take extraordinary measures, like wearing "tech suits", which a large number of them did.  An act like that never entered my mind.  I was incredulous. I never thought they would resort to it and, even if I'd known they were going to, I'm confident we would not have.

    Despite having a number of athletes continuing to battle illness and recovering from injuries, we fought the good fight yesterday in our team suits.  I'm very proud of the way we conducted ourselves under the circumstances, giving each dive and race everything we had to give.

    Across both meets, we posted:
    * 21 Career Best Times
    * 3 Season Best Times
    * 2 In-Season Best Times

    The final scores will be recorded as the Shippensburg Girls 96, Northern 89 and the Shippensburg Boys 100, Northern 83.  What the scores won't show is what it took for the Greyhounds to prevail against two Northern teams that - because of our reputation - they desperately wanted to beat.

    Let's use our pain, disappointment, frustration and incredulity as fuel and motivation to work even harder, push even farther in practice.  We still have work ahead of us, with three more division meets remaining (with James Buchanan tomorrow, and Trinity-CampHill and Boiling Springs over the next two weeks) as well as non-division opponent Palmyra next Thursday away.

    Thank you for taking the high road yesterday.  We will see Ship again in the post-season.  I'm looking forward to that and expect you are as well.
