Palmyra

  • defining moment

    Noun

    1. A moment in time that defines something, such as a person's success or failure, achievement or demise, talent, etc.
    2. A point at which the essential nature or character of a person, group, team, etc., is revealed or identified.

Yesterday was just that for us, in so many ways - a defining moment.

As I said to most of you after the meet, words could not adequately express how very pleased and happy I was with what you accomplished.

Whether experienced or new, swimming longer distance or sprinting, performing freestyle or a stroke, completing new dives or previous ones....we competed with passion, desire and a commitment to excellence, achieving remarkable results!

I looked through our dual meets from last season and this season so far and I can not find a meet where we posted a greater number of Career Best Times/Scores - 59!  That's incredible!

Let me start with the boys meet.  How about 34 Career Best Times/Scores, 2 Season Best Times, 1 In-Season Best Time (meaning during the regular season and not rested for the post-season), and 2 Career First Times!  The final score of Palmyra 126, Northern 50 does not take away from our tremendous achievements.  We're really coming together as a team, with everyone contributing across the roster.  Every meet, you get better and better.  That's all we, as coaches, can ask.

Our girls team went up against a very fast and deep AAA Palmyra team and made quite a statement.  The sense of Northern team pride and teamwork was palpable on deck.  Everyone cared about every performance, cheering for each other and summoning every fiber of your being in the pool to achieve for our TEAM!  It demonstrated how much is possible when you compete with passion and desire.  As I said after the meet, the final score of Palmyra 93, Northern 87 does not warrant anyone hanging their head.  As a girls team, we posted 25 Career Best Times/Scores, 17 Season Best Times and 5 In-Season Best Times!

What was revealed yesterday was forged in the "small" moments of practicing hard, with focus and determination...day after day....hour after hour....yard after yard....dive after dive.  There's a direct connection between what you put into our sport and what you get out of it.  Keep it up.  Don't let up!  As fantastic as yesterday was, I'm confident the best is yet to come!
