Boiling Springs

  • vs Boiling Springs, December 9th

Yesterday we began our season of competition.  We were tested...as individuals and as a team.  Let the record show, we had a very successful day!

In the Girls Meet, we won 10 of 12 events and scored 101 points to the Bubblers 79.

In the Boys Meet, despite winning 8 of 12 events, the visitor's depth and inspired swims (more on that below) allowed them to prevail by the narrowest of margins, 93-92.  It's disappointing and frustrating to come so close.  However, as I said after the meet, what we have to do is focus on the positive and on those things we can do better in practice starting today and during our next meet on Saturday against York Suburban.

After the meet, Boiling Springs Head Coach Matt Brenner told me to tell you that when they swim us, due to our tradition of excellence, they know they have to compete at their very best if they want to have any chance of winning and yesterday they did.  He said the only way they were able to win the Boys Meet was to swim a number of Career and Season Best Times and they did.  You brought out the very best in them and, I would argue, in yourselves.  As I said to you after the meet, don't take for granted the many positive things you achieved yesterday.  We swam and dove very well for our first meet, they just swam and dove a little bit better.  Hats off to them for a job well done and to you for the excellence in athletics and character you displayed.

Consider that across both the Girls and Boys meets, we posted 34 Career Best Times/Scores and had 11 Career First Times/Scores!  There were SO many inspiring performances, I can't list them all.  Some of our experienced swimmers and divers swam faster and dove better than EVER and our new swimmers and diver put on displays of commitment, courage and determination that we can draw upon in our own lives and will never forget!

One of the highlights of the meet was certainly senior diver Garrett Mixon establishing a new six-dive School Record score of 309.26!!!  Garrett broke Jordan Gift's record which stood since 2007.  Congratulations Garrett!

When you hit the board and water today, dive and swim inspired and with a purpose, because it's the things we do in the small moments that are revealed in the big ones.

I am so proud to be,

    Coach Resser
